About Fitzroy Legal Service
Fitzroy Legal Service (FLS) is one of Victoria’s oldest and most well‑known community legal centres, having opened in 1972 as the state’s first service of its kind. Based at the Fitzroy Town Hall, with additional outreach locations, FLS provides free and low‑cost legal assistance to individuals who might otherwise struggle to access legal help.
The service offers advice and representation across a wide range of legal areas, including criminal law, family violence, tenancy, employment, discrimination, and human rights matters. It also operates specialist clinics, a nightly drop‑in legal advice service, and targeted programs for priority communities, such as people experiencing homelessness, people in prison, and members of the LGBTIQA+ community.
FLS is also active in law reform, community legal education, and advocacy, aiming to create a fairer and more just Victorian community.
